In an earlier post, I created this fabulous candy corn centerpiece.
For that project, I used fresh carnations in shades of orange, yellow, and white.
For this one, I did a kid-friendly and inexpensive version using tissue paper flowers!
Can you believe how much the tissue paper flower looks like a real carnation?!
And these Halloween crafts for kids are so easy to make. These are just the basic steps, but you can scale up or down and, as always, add your own creative spark to it.
3-inch tissue paper flower how-to
- Layer four 8.5 x 11 pieces of tissue paper on top of one another and fold in thirds.
2. Cut on fold marks.
3. Starting at the bottom of one section, start folding the paper like an accordion.
4. Flip over and make another fold.
5. Keep folding in the opposite direction...
6. ...until you get to the end.
7. Staple the folded tissue together like so.
8. Fan out each side.
9. Starting on one side, separate the individual pieces of tissue, pulling the paper up toward the center.
10. Continue until you have separated all the sheets of tissue paper.
Voila! Your flower is finished.
Now it's time to create the base for the oversized candy corn display. For this, I used the styrofoam lining from a home delivery I received. I loved the fact that it had a built in “stand” on the back!
A small dab of adhesive on the back of each flower makes it super easy to attach each individual flower to the styrofoam base. You can use glue dots, a glue gun, double-sided tape, etc.
I hope these simple Halloween crafts for kids using recycled materials inspired you to create something too. And remember...just have fun with it!
